Oh, Yeah Baby, It's Fleet Week!

Yes, the first ships of summer are sailing into New York Harbor this weekend with the annual Memorial Day celebration of Fleet Week. Visiting ships come to town and you can trek through a commissioned naval vessel or two. The Intrepid Museum and surrounding piers is the center of most festivities, though many of the visiting ships will be moored on Staten Island. If you see sailors taking in the sights, be sure to welcome them, and not just with a Bronx cheer!

The parade of ships can be viewed just about anywhere from the Intrepid down to the Statue of Liberty.  Many events, talks and demonstrations at the Intrepid are free. Others, including the Memorial Day ceremony, require tickets.
